Veteran holding Help Wanted signThere are thousands of veterans discharged from active service every year and one of them could be the next member of your team. With a plethora of valuable skills and an incredible work ethic, former members of the U.S. Military make great employees. Here are 5 reasons why you should hire a veteran:

1. They have a great work ethic.
Veterans are trained leaders and they come from an environment where they are always expected to give 100%. If traits like integrity, reliability, and dedication are important to you—look no further. Vets are notorious for having a great work ethic and for following the rules.

2. They are team oriented.
Military life is about teamwork and moving toward a common goal. Veterans are typically accustomed to working on diverse teams and can work successfully with people from a variety of different backgrounds and cultures.

3. They are natural leaders.
There is a strong emphasis on developing leadership skills in the military. People are through into new situations quickly and must learn to adapt and progress in order to excel. If you’re looking for someone who will take initiative, learn quickly, stay the course with projects, and deliver results—hiring a veteran is the way to go!

4. They work well under pressure.
Whether it’s closing a sale, resolving a conflict, fixing a problem, or working against a tight deadline—veterans are used to navigating high stress situations and are used to being in an environment where they have to maintain composure and perform under pressure.

5. Business Incentives & Tax Credits
There are incentives available to companies who hire veterans. The Special Employer Incentives (SEI) program helps employers by covering everything from a partial salary reimbursement to compensation for training and equipment. In addition, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit that companies can qualify for if they hire people, like veterans, who have had difficulty finding employment.
